In a quieter day for the team, there were 23 swims on day 4.
Even though it was a quieter one for the team, this still exceeds the biggest day of heats we had at the 2024 Australian Age Champs so it really shows the improvement the team has made over the last 12 months. There were 6 finalists and 3 relay teams that competed in the night time finals.
Swim of the day...
... goes to Harrison Tancred in the Boys 16yrs 200m Breaststroke. Harri claimed the Silver medal in a nail biting finish in a PB time of 2:21.83. This is the first PB Harri has done in this event in 12 months, dropping 1.87 seconds.
Harri has showed patience over the course of the season, working on improving technique and skills so it was great to see it all come together when it matters.
Great swim Harri!
Kaitlin Barry qualified for her first final for the week in the Girls 14 yrs 400m IM and she definitely turned up to race. Kaitlin’s time of 5:04.94 was a pb swim where she had the fastest last 50 out of the entire field, swimming over the top of a competitor to claim the Silver medal.
Fantastic racing Kaitlin!
Lexi Mulcahy stepped up in another final, this time the Girls 13 years 400m Freestyle, winning the silver medal to add another to her collection. Her time of 4:30.20 was a 3.83 second PB.
Lexi stuck to her race plan, building through the race to finish strong and also swim over someone in the final stages of the race.
Good job Lex!
To round out the medals for the day, Issy Mulcahy claimed her second Gold medal of the meet in the Girls 15 yrs 800m Freestyle.
What was great about Issy’s win is that she did it from the day time swim due to it being swum as a straight final. Issy beat 4 other girls who raced in the fastest heat at night which is usually very hard to do. Issy’s time of 9:00.47 was a pb swim and whilst narrowly missing the 9:00 minute mark, the coaches know she is ready to break that barrier very soon.
Awesome work Issy.
Other finals and top-10 finishes for day 4:
Hannah Jamieson Girls 13 yrs 400m Freestyle 4th 4:33:88 PB
William Mackay Boys 17 yrs 800m Freestyle 5th 8:34:53
Luke Lee Boys 15 yrs 400m IM 6th 4:39:66 PB
Maisie Langley Girls 14 yrs 400m IM 9th 5:22:71 PB in the heat
Ruben Langley Boys 17 yrs 800m freestyle 9th 8:49:67
Pare Nader Girls 13yrs 50m Butterfly 9th 29.37 PB
Special mention to Pare Nadar for her 9th placing in the girls 13 years 50m butterfly. Pare dropped 0.36 off her pb touching in 29.37.
Like many of the team, Pare has had a big program and is doing a great job of turning up each day and giving her best on each swim.
Tonight’s finals finished with another round of club relays, this time the 4x100m Medley.
In the Girls team we had Lexi Mulcahy (Backstroke, 66.87), Maya Ostapenko (Breaststroke, 1:18.57), Lexie Cook (Butterfly, 65.04), Charlotte Lim (Freestyle, 58.67) finishing in 17th place.
We had two teams for the Boys:
Firstly, Luke Lee (Backstroke, 1:00.73), Justin Wang (Breaststroke, 66.15), Ari Knowles (Butterfly, 57.40), Ruben Langley (Freestyle, 53.38) finishing 20th. The second team was Will Morgan (Backstroke, 1:01.13), Harrison Tancred (Breaststroke, 1:04,68), Will Mackay (Butterfly, 58.99), Xander Mackay (Freestyle, 55.77), who finished 27th.
Great job, team!
Day 5 brings plenty of opportunities with 36 swims from the team.
With the way the team has been performing, they just need to continue to do what they have been doing so well - turn up and race!
Bring it on!
