Day 1 of the Australian Age Championships kicked off in Brisbane, with the Carlile Swim Team featuring in 25 races.
With this being Carlile’s biggest first day of racing in our national campaigns over the last 4 years, it was bound to be a big one! Of the 25 swims, 12 progressed through to night time finals and 15 top ten finishes across the day!
Swim of the day...
... goes to Issy Mulcahy, claiming gold in the girls 15 years 1500m Freestyle in a pb time of 17:09.18.
Issy swam a well-paced race, swimming away from her competitors at the 400m mark and then continuing to pull away for the rest of the field. Her time was a 14 second pb and made her the second fastest swimmers in the event, despite there being 2 age groups older than her!
It was great to see Issy claim this National Title back after her silver placing in 2024.

Charlotte Lim featured in another 2 individual Finals, and a State relay to make it two big days of racing in a row.
In her first event for the night, Charlotte claimed Silver in the Girls 13 years 100m Free, coming home with the fastest backend 50 in the field (29.60). Charlotte turned 7th at the 50m mark and showed true determination to claim her second medal of the meet.
In her other results tonight, Charlotte finished 15thin the girls 13 years 50m Breast, and also led off the Mixed Medley State relay which went on win the bronze medal.

The third medal of the night for Carlile went to Luke Lee in the boys 15 years 200m Back, claiming a silver medal in a pb time of 2:06.40. Luke put himself in the race early and went with leader all the way until the final 25m. A gutsy swim, and a great outcome.
Well done Luke.

Special mention must go to Will Morgan. Will dropped1.87 seconds off his pb (2:10.57) in the boys 17 years 200m IM to tie 10th, meaning he had to compete in a swim-off less than an hour later.
Will again, swam inside his pre-National best time (2:10.82). narrowly being touched out for a place in the final. Will’s swim was a huge effort, he moved his ranking from 17th to 10th in the country.
PB heat swims included: Harper Yin (100 Free, 1:01.97), Hannah Jamieson (100 Free, 1:01.61), Wes Peacock (100 Free, 56.79), Pare Nadar (50 Breastroke, 36.48), Xander Mackay (100 Free, 54.81) and Oli Yin (100 Free, 55.20).
Day 3 is going to be another jam packed day of racing for Carlile with a massive 34 swims to come.
It is really exciting to see the team featuring across so many different events.
