Day 1 of the Australian Age Championships kicked off in Brisbane, with the Carlile Swim Team featuring in 25 races.
With this being Carlile’s biggest first day of racing in our national campaigns over the last 4 years, it was bound to be a big one! Of the 25 swims, 12 progressed through to night time finals and 15 top ten finishes across the day!
Swimmer of the day...
... goes to Lexi Mulcahy, for not just one swim, but for 5 huge swims on the very first day of her first Age Nationals!
Lexi started the day racing the heats of girls 13 years 200m Back and 100m Fly progressing through to the finals in both, as well as the girls 13-14 years 800m Freestyle, which was a straight final swum in the heats.
Lexi showed true grit and resilience in the evening finals to come away with 4th place in the 200m Back in a time of 2:24.50, then only an hour later jumped back onto the blocks to sneak a bronze medal in the 100m Fly with a big PB of 1:04.22. What was great about Lexi’s 100 Butterfly was the way she swam over 2 swimmers in the second 50 to secure the medal.
To top off Lexi’s day, she won the gold medal in the 800m Freestyle from her day time race. A massive effort Lexi – Well done! .
A big congratulations goes to Charlotte Lim for her gold medal effort in the girls 13 years 200m Back.
With this being Charlotte’s first National campaign, it was great to see her show complete composure throughout the entire race, leading from the start to finish and executing her race plan with precision. Charlotte’s time of 2:19.87 was more than 3s ahead of second place!
Charlotte will feature in a lot of events across the week, so stay tuned for more on her results to come.
Great job, Charlotte.
Hannah Jamieson was the third medal winner for the team securing the silver medal behind Lexi in the girls 13 years 800m Free. Hannah dropped a huge 10.02s off her pb and secured the medal.
With Australia having such a rich history in distance events, it was very exciting for the coaching team to see the girls take gold and silver in this event.
Hannah should be very proud of her day one efforts, also adding a 5th place in the 200m Back. Hannah moved her ranking from 15th to 5th in a pb time of 2:27.36.
