National Age 2024 - Day 7

It has been a massive final day for the team in what has been an incredible week on the Gold Coast. Carlile had 14 races in the heats with 7 of those progressing through to finals. This is an impressive conversion from heats to finals!

Swim of the Day...

Swim of the day goes to Maisie Langley who raced the girls 13 years 1500m freestyle, dropping 33.65 seconds off her PB. This was a huge effort given the program Maisie has completed over the last 7 days. Great finish Maisie.

Fantastic finalists...

The first final of the night saw Lexie Cook race the girls 14 years 200m butterfly. Lexi went into the race ranked 9th and finished the race 6th from the outside lane. Lexie dropped 0.87 seconds off her pb to finish in 2.24.82.

In another great 200 butterfly race, Taj Kingston dropped 4.47 seconds off his pb to finish 6th in the boys 15 years event. This was Taj’s first A final for the meet and he finished the week with a bang. Great work Taj.

Ethan Cook also finished the week with his first A final, competing from the outside lane of the boys 16 years 400m IM. Ethan went into the race ranked 10th and ended up 7th in the final. His time of 4.46.46 was a great pb to finish the week. Well done Ethan.

In the girls 16 years 200m backstroke Zannah Dixon came away with a season best in a time of 2.22.57. Zannah dropped her time in the heat, and then came back to drop again in the final. Zannah finished 7th. Amazing work Zannah.

Following on in the backstroke events Maya Ostapenko featured in her 5th final for the week. Maya raced the girls 14 years 100m backstroke finishing 4th place in a time of 1.06.48. This is a new another pb swim for Maya. Great week Maya.

Medallist Marvels...

Following on from her gold medal effort last night, Olivia Wunsch secured her third gold medal for the meet, winning the girls 17 years 100m butterfly. Liv set herself a new pb of 58.62, dropping 0.72 seconds and dipping under 59 for the first time. What a way to finish you National age campaign Liv.

To finish off a big night of finals Isobel Mulcahy stepped up and dropped 15.54 seconds of her time in the girls 14 years 1500m freestyle, claiming the silver medal. Issy has faced some big events across the 7 days and it has been impressive to see her finish off the meet with such a big pb. Well done Issy.

NSW Representatives...

Kaitlin Barry and Olivia Wunsch were selected to represent their state in the state relays. Both girls swam pb times, with Kaitlin swimming the backstroke leg (30.73) in the mixed 13-14 years IM relay, and Liv swimming the freestyle leg (24.21) in the mixed 17-18 years IM relay.

Final Wrap up...

Well done to all 25 swimmers who represented Carlile this week.  In 2023 we finished 9th in the club points competition, this year we moved to 7th.  A huge move forward especially since we had less swimmers competing at the meet this year!

As a coaching team we are incredibly proud of the way the club was represented!
