Nationals 2024 - Day 4 Wrap Up

It was another cracking day on the GC for day 4 of the meet. Carlile had another busy program with 18 races across the day. The PB's continued and 5 swimmers progressed through to the night finals. With only 3 days to go the swimmers are showing resilience and determination as they continue to step up across the 7 day meet.

To kick off the night of finals Olivia Wunsch secured a silver medal in the girls 17 years 50m freestyle. It was great for Liv to get another opportunity to go head to head with her fellow JNR World's team mate. Great job Liv.

Swim of the Day...

Swim of the day goes to the boys 14-18 years medley relay which closed out the night with a bang. The boys team of Will Morgan, Justin Wang, Will Mackay and Ruben Langley swam under their entry time by a massive 5.72 seconds. This shows just how much they rose for their team.  Will led off the backstroke leg in a time of 1.03.74, Justin breaststroke in 1.06.13, Will Mackay butterfly in 57.55 and Ruben anchoring the freestyle leg in 53.20. Great effort boys.

Medley Mayhem...

Kaitlin Barry stepped up to race her 4th final of the meet, this time racing the girls 400m IM. Kaitlin put herself in the race nice and early and had a good battle to the finish in the freestyle leg. Kaitlin's pb time of 5.07.90 won her the silver medal in a very exciting finish. Carlile had 4 girls feature in this race with all 4 swimming pb's. Congratulations to Jessica Persson who finished 9th, and Maisie Langley who finished 10th. Keep it going girls.

Finishing up the night was the girls 13-17 years 4x100 medley relay. The girls team of Zannah Dixon (1.06.56), Lexie Cook (1.18.17), Olivia Wunsch (57.55) and Kaitlin Barry (59.37) finished 10th place. It was great to see the girls improve on their ranking that they went in with.

Breaststroke Finals...

Carlile had two girls make the girls 14 years 200m breaststroke, with the girls swimming out of lanes side by side. Lexie Cook dropped 1.33 seconds off her entry time from heat to final, and finished 8th in a time of 2.43.60. She is continuing to show that she can get up and swim faster in finals which is fantastic to see. Maya Ostapenko swam her 3rd final for the meet, finishing 9th in a time of 2.45.43. Well done girls.

In the boys 16 years 1500m freestyle William Mackay and Ruben Langley claimed a silver and bronze. Will's time of 16.23.72 was second in the field, and Ruben's time of 16.35.11 was third. Both boy's should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations Will and Ruben.
