Equipment
Swimmers are required to bring the following equipment items along to each class with them. These are to be contained in a kit bag and labelled with their name.
The human body is really not made for swimming - it is a fairly unusual movement pattern for us to acquire! This is part of the reason why we are required to train at a higher frequency to other land-based sports that involve walking/running - a movement that comes naturally to us as humans.
Aerobic capacity develops early and peaks upon the completion of puberty, so it is vital that a strong foundation is achieved through the frequency of training. Take the case of one of the greatest Olympians of all time - Katie Ledecky:
10yrs = 25km per week (5 sessions)
11yrs = 40km per week (6 sessions)
12-13yrs = 50km per week (8 sessions)
14yrs = 60km per week (9 sessions)
15yrs = 70km per week (9-10 sessions) > Gold Medal 800m Free - London 2012
